The Program in Anthropology at The University of Texas at Arlington invites
applications for a tenure track or tenured appointment at the assistant or
associate professor level in social/cultural anthropology. Although area of
research specialization is open, we seek a scholar whose research interests
will complement and strengthen those of our cultural anthropology faculty
(i.e., globalization, international migration and medical anthropology);
applications are particularly invited from scholars in public anthropology,
political anthropology and development anthropology. Preference will be
given to candidates with an active research agenda in Africa, Asia or Latin
America. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach undergraduate
and graduate courses in anthropological theory as well as in his/her topical
areas of expertise. The Anthropology Program emphasizes a four-field
approach and currently includes a permanent faculty of five, with two
cultural anthropologists, two archaeologists and one biological
anthropologist. The University of Texas at Arlington, a public
Doctoral/Research Extensive institution, is a part of the University of
Texas System, enrolling approximately 25,000 students in 81 undergraduate,
73 master's and 35 doctoral programs. It is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth
Metroplex, a vibrant and growing region of north Texas. Arlington, a city
with a suburban feel and a pleasant and affordable place to live, has an
ethnically and culturally diverse population. Its proximity to both Dallas
and Fort Worth provides outstanding cultural and recreational opportunities,
including world-renowned museums, symphony, opera and ballet and
professional sports. Arlington is conveniently located near DFW
International Airport. Applicants must have PhD in hand by the beginning of
the Fall 2007 semester. Review of applications will begin immediately, and
will continue until the position is filled. Applications (including cover
letter, curriculum vitae and three letters of reference) should be sent to
Dr. Shelley L. Smith, Chair, Anthropology Search Committee, Program in
Anthropology, Box 19599, University of Texas at Arlington, Arlington, TX
76019. Applications from underrepresented groups are especially encouraged.
