Kale, chard, broccoli, radishes and popcorn kernels dried from last
season's crop were some of the veggie fare offered at Cornell's
on-campus organic farmers' market this week.

Taking refuge under a shady tree outside Mann Library, Suzy Konecky
'09 and Matt Ball '09, the student farm managers of Cornell's Dilmun
Hill Student Organic Farm, said the fruits of the farm's labor are
available every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. throughout the summer.

The produce, grown within walking distance from the Ag Quad, varies
weekly, depending on the ripening and the harvest of the fruits and
vegetables grown at the farm, they said. In coming weeks, Konecky and
Ball expect to also have onions, carrots, tomatoes, watermelons and
blueberries for sale.

"Dilmun Hill is really great to get students excited about
agriculture, learn more about where their food comes from and how to
grow food," said Konecky, who switched her major to international
agriculture from human development after getting involved at Dilmun
Hill. The farm offers students, many of whom are not familiar with
farm life, an opportunity to get a taste of it. Patrons who purchase
Dilmun Hill's produce are not only supporting sustainable
agriculture, she added, but also student learning and community
outreach.

Students and community members are invited to volunteer at Dilmun
Hill at work parties every Monday, 3-7 p.m., and Thursdays, 1-4 p.m.,
throughout the summer and into the fall. Dilmun Hill also offers two
weekend work parties; the first is this Saturday, July 12, at noon.

Dilmun Hill Student Organic Farm is located west of the Cornell
Orchards at the intersection of Judd Falls Road and Dryden Road. For
more information, see
