As to the tractor aspect...
We've run a 200 cow beef operation, 20 milk cows, pastured pork and poultry
for the last 7 years and still don't have a tractor. We trade with a neighbor
for the use of his (about 10 hrs./yr not counting bushhogging). We have a
Hydrabed (www.triple-c-inc.com) on our truck that we use to feed hay. The bed
costs about 7,000 but we do all kinds of things with it that you'd normally use
a front end loader for. The other option we used for the first 3 years was 4
wheeler power. We used small square bales with a small wagon (about 15
bales/load) and for round and big square bales we have an old (70's model) pull type
bale mover designed to go behind a truck. It made for quite a bit more
manual labor, but is a lot cheaper and easier to maintain than a tractor.
