Feingold slams delay in milk pricing reforms
U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold, D-Wis., says the agriculture
appropriations
bill passed by the Senate on Tuesday included a provision to delay
reform of the current milk pricing system by six months. U.S.
Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman has orders to implement a new system
by April 1999, but the budget bill would delay that move until October.
Feingold claims the delay is a means of bullying Glickman into
accepting milk pricing reforms that the Senator calls
``anti-Wisconsin.''

USDA launches Council on Small Farms
U.S. Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman announced plans
Wednesday to
create a Council on Small Farms and a new office at USDA that will deal
specifically with small farm issues.
Glickman told a meeting of the Small Farms Commission that the
office
would coordinate USDA agencies' responses to the commission's
recommendations.
The office will identify other opportunities for USDA
involvement in
small farm issues and develop a strategy to integrate a small farm
emphasis into USDA policies and programs.
