I am interested in selling beef in a grassfed market to hopefully collect a
premium. Could anyone please give me some information on what i can expect to
sell them for, and also if there is any kind of existing market, that I can
sell to, rather than selling to individuals?
Thanks, John King
I sell my beef all retail now, lost too much money doing anything else
but retail. I sell at the farm, via internet, farmers' market, cooperative
buying clubs, word of mouth, etc. I cannot emphasize enough the need to do as
much of the work as possible to garner the typical middle-person "cut" of our
food dollars. If you're not in the driver's seat, the price is dictated to you
and not the other way around. I've never worked so hard, but in our commodity
style economy, you should do as little wholesaling as possible ! Unless small
scale producers cooperate more, I see no other way to economically compete with
the establishment ! If you don't like the retail customer contact, hire a
manager to do that or get a family member with the skills to help. Your customers
are gold.....do everything in your power to hold them. Just my opinion, hope
it offers food for thought. D. Petrovick.
