Unless you own a retail outlet, marketing jugged milk is a very risky game,
with little chance of reward. The potential profits are pretty slim, even
if you suceed. I do not personally know of a single profitable bottler of
milk in the US. One "successful" operator, who quarts of "bottled on the
farm" milk for about $4/ea, hasn't made a dime in 15 years. A very small
minority of people will pay big bucks for milk, even if it is perceptably
better than the mass-produced stuff. And those who will pay up, tire of it
quickly, and revert to the cheap stuff: look at the waning premium that the
large allegedly "organic" bottlers are getting, now only about $.25/half
gallon around here.
Cheese, of course, is another matter altogether.....
