Brokenhearted, we need to find a home for our Hannah, our year-old
Akita-mutt, who loves cows but has some serious issues with other dogs and
with strangers. She's very smart, and loves the cows and calves, some of
which she midwifed: licked them dry and tried to eat the placenta!

The problem is, we have dozens of visitors every weekend, including some
with dogs, and Hannah's guarding instincts are not compatible with this
situation. She has gotten into tiffs with other dogs, and while she's never
bitten a person, her aggressiveness towards visitors, which would be cute
in a beagle, in an 85 lb dog it is downright alarming.

Hannah was the product of a midnight hedgerow dalliance between Fritz, a
purebred Akita LSGD, and Rosie, a mixed-breed herding dog in the Amish
community of Southern Lancaster County, PA. I got her when she was 5 weeks
old, when I found out that she was about to be sold to a testing lab. She
has been a great dog, is a good help with the cows, and we're going to
miss her dearly, but she needs to be on a farm where her instincts will
serve her well, instead of getting her into trouble. She's been spayed,
has a clean bill of health, and the usual litany of vaccinations.
