Rather than lease cows, I'd suggest going to a herd dispersal auction.
And if you want a low cost way to start or grow a herd, buy the 3 teaters.
Yes, you have to put up with the hassle of milking the 3 teater for a
couple years, but she will most likely make as much milk as a 4 teater,
give birth to some calves with which to build up your herd. Typically,
the auction price for 3 teaters is around the cull cow price, so you don't
lose money if she doesn't work out and you have to ship her. Basically
you can buy at least two 3 teaters for the price of one 4 teater at
auctions.
With leasing, you have to pay back part of your income to rent that cow.
With ownership, you keep what you net.
