Good Afternoon List Friends,
This is a link to the Research Results page of the Canada/Alberta Beef
Industry Development Fund. It covers the final report of the research
project titled:
"CABIDF-45
Prevention of enteric pathogens in beef
http://www.albertabeef.org/CABIDF/03reports/45gillF.html
To quote the lead paragraph:
"The research findings lead Dr. Colin Gill, an Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada researcher in Lacombe, Alta., to believe
that redesigned carcass breaking equipment could significantly reduce the levels of E. coli contamination, and therefore result
in safer beef."
A key conclusion from the article:
"....most of the coliforms and E. coli recovered from the cuts were not present on carcass sides, but that they
originated largely from the cut conveying equipment."
I learned of this report from the April 21 post from the MDirect email alert service of Meristem, an Ag information service out
of Calgary. Their statement:
MDirect distributes news releases on behalf of clients. We try our best to target only those people and groups who may find
this information useful and of interest.
