Graze-Lers
If we think it is important to keep the family farm (and I do) then we
have to develop ways to get the next generation started whether they are
family or not.
I propose that in dairy farming at least there is a good way to do that
and the risk to the retiring dairyman is quite small. He might actually
never sell the farm but gift it after death. Instead use the equity he
has during his retirement to keep his farm generating income while
helping a sharemilker prepare to purchase his own farm.
Rick's estimate of $1,000,000 being adequate to retire on may not
suffice with us all living longer today, but if we continue to gain a
good return from our grass farm while the next generation does so as
well then we help establish the next generation as we continue our
earning ability as long as we are capable to share as a mentor.
We need a ground swell of producers with a desire of developing ways to
make this happen.
