Hi,
We bought one of those Farmhand wheel rakes when they were
new. They were supposed to treat the hay more gently than
a conventional wheel rake, and supposedly could be operated
at much high ground speed.
The first time we tried to rake it was just a bit breezy.
The windrows came off the rake and just kept on rolling.
That first day we couldn't make a windrow straight enough
to follow with the baler.
We had bought the thing based on a phamplet that I had got
at the county fair. When it wouldn't make decent windrows,
I just couldn't believe that anything could be so
stunningly misrepresented.
Within 24 hours we had bought some plywood and covered the
wheels. That solved the problem.
We've probably had that thing for 45 years now. I think my
brother has it now and is still using it.
