Hello Dick,
Dock is a member of the buck wheat family, it is a perennial and around
here it common in meadows. they grow from 1-4 feet tall have a flower/
seed pod that looks like brown to reddish cluster at the top of the
plant. around here it normally grows in well drained clay soils.
my experience with dock is with a well established pasture and good
grazing habits it does not stay. It is not what I consider a good plant
to graze it. even though they like it a cow will stand there and pick
at the leaves for 20 minutes, and in my opinon I would rather have them
eating mouth fulls of ryegrass and clover.
hope this helps,
