> Does anyone have experience with feeding milk to pigs?
A warning if you are going to butcher your hogs yourself.
My father and I raised hogs for my sister's inlaws (a large german/english
clan) to butcher in the fall. My mother kept a dozen or so goats for their
milk for cheese making. We fed the extra milk and whey from the cheese to
the hogs. Typically, a rifle loaded with .22 short amunition would be used
to start the butchering operation. These milk fed hog's skulls were so
thick that a .22 short would not penetrate the bone. The hog would stand
and shake his head as if to say why did you do that? and start to walk off.
Ultimately a larger calibre rifle would have to be used which upset the
butcherers as it caused more waste for a family that used every part of the
hog....including the squeal.
