I gather from what I've seen that I can sell my eggs in used cartons through
local stores.
I've wondered if I can sell my eggs to the local B&B Inn, and the local
gourmet restaurant?
Our first bunch of pullets are just growing up now, and if I can sell eggs
locally, especially to the inn and the restaurant, I may save more layers.
Thank you for a very timely message Walter.
cheers, Ann in Wallingford

Subject: [Graze-l] [SPAM] - Vermont Rules on Egg Sales from Small Flocks -
Found word(s) farm in the Text body
This might be interesting to some...
I just spoke with the state department of agriculture consumer
protection agency person who handles this asking what are the
regulations on selling eggs from a small home flock in Vermont. Here is
a summary of the rules:
For flocks of less than 3,000 chickens:
1. You may put the eggs in used egg cartons.
2. Cross off the Vermont Seal of Quality or the USDA seal if it is on
the carton.
3. Put a sticker or stamp on the carton with your name and address.
4. Don't put in small eggs, cracked eggs or dirty eggs.
I think he said this is a national standard that Vermont follows but I
wasn't sure of that so it may or may not be different in other states.
He's sending me a booklet but said that the above is the essentials.
I was interested because during some parts of the year we have massive
extra numbers of eggs from our pastured flock of hens. People have
asked about buying them but so far I've only given them away to friends
and family as well as feeding the pigs and dogs the extras. Now I know
I can sell them and what to do.
Cheers,
Walter Jeffries
