I'm reminded of a story my father told me. According to him,
A very old farmer in Vermont finally got a telephone. The town paper
decided it would be nice to have a story about being one of the last people
in the state to get a telephone.
The reporter arrived and they sat down and the farmer started talking and
answering questions. At one point during the interview, the phone started
to ring. The reporter paused, but the farmer kept talking. The phone kept
ringing. The reporter kept looking at the phone and then the farmer, and
then jotting his notes. The phone kept ringing and the farmer didn't seem
to hear it, and just kept talking.
Finally the reporter said "You know, your phone is ringing"
Farmer said "I know".
Reporter asked "Aren't you going to answer it?"
Farmer replied "Nope. I got it for MY convenience".
I keep that in mind when I use my cell phone and, oddly enough, my email.

Hi,
You guys think this is a little bit funny, but it ain't.
We have a pretty fair sized business here with the produce auction. We have
3300 people registered to buy or sell. If I allow it, one of them will call
me every few seconds on auction days. This starts at 5 am. This is no joke
as it takes all the pleasure out of life and halts all useful work.
Most of them probably wouldn't call me if they had to go find a real phone.
I do not answer the phone, and the message system doesn't work as it is
always full.
Same thing, almost, with my wife who gets constant calls from attorneys but
they at least stick to business hours.
I hate cell phones.
That poem really hit home with me. I have it on the wall here at the
produce auction.
