Just a quick thank-you to FW Owen, for putting me onto the track of Knoppix
Linux - which boots from a CD. I've since moved onto MEPIS Linux, which
also boots from a CD. Both seem like good ways to explore Linux before
committing to it. I've also found out about TUX magazine, which is a free
online Linux magazine for new Linux users.
F W Owen also mentioned he had designed/developed his own stock management
software. Would he, or anyone else, be willing to share the structure of
the database they use?? I had purchased a good system, but it turned out to
be non Y2K compatible and so died (swallowing 5 years of data in the
process!!)!! Also, I'm sick of the commercial software companies asking
extortionate fees for "support". I'm looking to use a PDA for the
data-recording in the future, which the commercial software doesn't manage
well at the moment (and will ask for expensive "upgrades" as they develop
the capability). I used to do some dBase programming in the past, and am
willing/keen to learn. Can anyone assist??
