Dave,
Nice article in Successful Farming magazine about your farm and
your share-milking arrangement with Scott and Darla Foerg! Its good to
see graziers and thoughtful, experienced farmers featured in the popular
press.
Everyone talks about the skewed demographics of the farm population
and the need for young farmers, but few do anything about it. Kudos to
you and Helen for making something happen!

Margaret Smith

Subject: RE: [Graze-l] Molasses feeding

Graze-Lers,
As Sylvia related we do feed liquid molasses each day to the milking
herd. Not at the level Dave Johnson is suggesting but at 1 pound per day
along with 4 pounds of fine ground corn (maize) and minerals.
Our reason is that molasses is quickly available as an energy source,
highly palatable, and encourages cows to eat even when they are quite
full of high quality pasture, increasing DM intake.
