Aren't regulations and apathetic customers inevitable when the only
deciding factor on food is the price?
I would think that by and large a grass based agricultural system ought
to be able to win out on ease of compliance with regulations and cost of
production.

I would like to think that this would be effective
But the fact is the general public get fed only what is sensational,
by the media, as that is what sells newspapers. The truth rarely
attracts attention. Groups like PETA know this very well and use it to
full effect. they use terms like studies have shown, or leading
scientists agree but never name the studies or scientists.
So how will we get our message across to people whose only concern is
getting cheap food
