A Drifting Cowboy's Thanksgiving Prayer
Well Lord,
It's Thanksgiving, though I don't guess you'd know,
Cause it looks more like Christmas with all of this snow.
And I'm up here with these cows that got left behind
They're to slow to go down with the herd. I don't mind,
Since a poor driftin' cowboy don't need a lot,
And I sure am thankful for all that I've got
A bedroll, a saddle, a horse and a truck
That'll usually start sometimes with a prayer and some luck.
And, I reckon there's folks who are countin' their blessings
With family and friends and turkey with dressings
And we are up here, Lord just me and you
And you can bet I'm countin' my blessings too.
When you're living your life without a whole lot of stuff,
Everyday blessings are always enough.
Like watching calves playing on the first grass of spring,
And lying awake hearing whip-or-wills sing.
And helping a neighbor, and making new friends,
I can't count 'em all, Lord, the list never ends!
And it sure is sad, that folks with lots of things,
Like big houses and big cars and big diamond rings,
Can't understand, how a cowboy, who's possessions are few
Can be thankful just knowin' that all things come' from You.
And be especially thankful to spend every day
Just making a living the old cowboy way
And when I drift on Lord, I know I can depend
On You bein' with me from beginning to end.
And for this fine meal of beans and fat meat
I am truly thankful. Lord, sit down, lets eat!
Amen
