I've just been reading through oldish posts about trees in pasture.
Interesting.
I've been wondering about trying to plant trees around the edges of swampy
areas in an attempt to dry those areas a little, and am wondering what
people's experience is.
Have you succeeded in drying, somewhat, a wet area by using trees?
I likely would be using deciduous trees, which don't work when they have no
leaves.
I was thinking we would try to graze our wet areas when they were at their
driest, but now I'm wondering if we would be better off planting trees that
will transfer water to the air and just don't try to use those areas...
Maintenance of fences is part of the question. It might be easier to
maintain electric fences that run through trees than fences on the edge of
an open swamp...
We are in Vermont, in the NE USA. I was thinking about Black Willow or Red
Maple as possible candidates. Red Maple would be very pretty in fall, but
will it dry up a swamp?
thanks, Ann
