Provenza's work is important in showing how animals learn from mom
what is good food, one reason that the loss of the grazing herds and
flocks in our national forests would be a disaster, we'd lose the
genetics of the animals selected for generations to utilize our high
mountain pastures. But that is separate from providing optimal
nutrition an mineral balances.
Living organisms are highly adaptable, and you can survive on a wide
variety of diets. But for optimal health and improved production you
have to be more in tune with the increased needs.
There is a big difference in my mind from survival, and low
production vs optimal health and increased production.
