=D8 Apache are too speckly for my list but great cows. <
I loved those spots! The strongest animal I ever witnessed was an Apache=
daughter.
=D8 Citation R Maple...a little too small for me.
Jim Repard would pick young herd sires for my father. Time and again over=
years it would be a Apache, or an R Maple, etc. A lot of Red factor in our=
herd at that time made me join the Red and White Dairy Association in the=
seventies; it was good exposure to multi function breeds, but in the end=
their "model" cow (a Larry Moore dam) was just another Holstein as
far as I=
was concerned.
> Why didn't you mention Willow? I almost put him on
my list.<
I should have, I am an idiot. I got tears in my eyes when I read your sire=
list. My best investments as a young man where select calf sales. Willard=
Pengelly and Cash Bottoms yelling "YES! ..YES!...YES!" at the gavel
of=
Harris Wilcox or Bill Kent. Of these heifer calf purchases a dam whose=
prefix escapes me now, developed into one of the finest animals I ever=
owned, going twenty-five thousand time and again, way above our herd=
average at that time=85=94something ..something. Willow Irene=94 Anyway, a=
Willow daughter; I bred her in the very early eighties to SWD Valiant as I=
remember to be blessed with Purdy View Omni Olympian Zeus or =93Buddy=94 as=
we called him, =85.nice bull. Purdy View Classic was perhaps the best=
looking bull I ever owned however and he came a few years later.
=D8 Eastern AI =85.. New Yorkers were starved for good cows <grin>. =
This was the main reason Curtiss (Breeding Service) was so strong in New=
York.<
True. I never used either for many years, just ABS and Select Sires; years=
later we did use some Eastern sires. I never actually used any of the=
early Eastern or Curtiss sires' ampules or straws, just their sons and=
daughters <Royal grins now>
Be safe. Sincerely,
