I would favor eliminating those so-called subsidies only if we install
strict quotas and higher tariffs so domestic dairy farm production is not
subjected to over-supplied markets created by foreign products.
With higher farm gate prices, there would be no need for so-called
subsidies.
But the actual reality is that every country tries to game the system to
favor their self interests. My post showed Brazil coming up with a program
to aid their soybean farmers. NZ uses currency exchange rates, games the
quota-tariff system with a "industrial chemical" called MPC, fails to
pay
the 15 cent check off, etc., etc. Vaughn makes allegations that US grain
farmers are putting Mexican grain farmers out of business but has no qualms
about Kiwi imports raising heck with US dairy prices and the impact upon US
farmers.
The reality is that each country needs to take care of their own. Heck,
the US income tax handicaps US businesses and industries competiting in
world markets. We should replace the income tax with the flat tax so we
can be more competitive, if competition is truly your desire.
