Oddly proportioned doesn't faze us: some of our best cows are the runty
culls that we bought when we started and their oddball offspring. If
they can walk, eat, bear and nurture calves, and produce a reasonable
20-30 lbs of fluid milk per day on one milking and zero grain, and never =
get sick, we don't care if they have three tits, one eye in the middle
of their forehead, and purple spots. Actually, our Kerry crosses are
all completely marking-free, ranging from jet black to chocolate brown,
regardless of mom's genetics. Purple spots would help us sort them out!
In a couple of years we'll know for sure, so you all may get to say I
told you so after all. It reminds me of when I called the NJ Dept of Ag =
in 2002 and said "Hi, I'm a new dairy farmer in NJ", and the guy in
Trenton answered, after a long awkward pause, "Mister, you're either the =
smartest or stupidest man alive". Perhaps it's still too early to tell!
