Hi
I dont have anything on Anderson but I have a book of 1876 (at least thats
what I think MDCCCLXXVI indicates) by Henry Stephens F.R.S.E. which on
paragraph 2379 book II advises :
"to avoid continual stocking, the stock should not be allowed to remain too
long in the same field. The safest principal to treat each grazing field is
to stock it fully at once, in order to eat it bare enough in a short time,
and then to leave it unstocked for 2 weeks or so, that the grass might grow
up to a fresh bite"
The work itself has 2 volumes and is practically a complete farming
education of its time. A lot of what is in it is now more of interest in
understanding my grandparents approach to farming but even still there are
pieces within it such as on draining that are useful. I recognise a lot of
current sheep practices in it also.
