Apparently anti-animal ag. extremists are universal. In the US, the
HSUS and PETA are trying to eliminate animal ag. It doesn't matter whether
it is grazing or confinement, the extremists want us all gone. Dave G.

Greenpeace Reveals New Zealand Dairy Expansion Out of Control
Greenpeace today revealed that the clearing of New Zealand forests for
use by dairy farming is at an all-time high, and claims that dairy farming
is "the most greenhouse-gas-intensive form of land use." Scoop reported that
New Zealand's ag sector is responsible for 49 percent of all New Zealand's
greenhouse gas emissions, and the 15 percent increase since 1990 is largely
due to the dairy sector. Greenpeace volunteers are replanting more than
1,000 trees on land cleared for dairy farming in the central North Island by
the state-owned Enterprise Landcorps. Greenpeace also released photos and
aerial footage of Landcorps conversion of forest land into intensive dairy
farming. New Zealand government figures estimate the number of dairy cows in
the country will increase as much as 21 percent by 2010, and there is
currently no legislation in place to keep dairy expansion in check or hold
agriculture accountable for emissions. Greenpeace is asking the government
to stop dairy expansions until it can be made more sustainable and to be in
compliance with the country's Emissions Trading Scheme.
