I stockpiled some meadow fescue on a leased farm in central Minnesota. I opened the gate after the native 
(bluegrass/timothy/quack) pasture got snowed under and then the land owner closed it... He thought I should be feeding hay 
rather than making them dig for a living.

Judy Greg has SOUTHERN Missori figured out, but I think you have to be in a low cost hay region to winter cows in the upper 
midwest.
