I have met Dave Gneiser and his bark is worse than his bite.
Dave may be confrontational and provocative on grazing lists but he also
has a generous spirit under that gruff exterior.
In 2005 he gave up a day of his time to show me ( who he had never met
before) some of the leading dairy farmers in his patch of Wisconsin. I
still clearly recall the Knigge family farm at Omro Wisconsin as a
highlight of that day. At the end of the day I sampled some of his fine
steak, drank a few of his favourite beers and met his long suffering
wife Bonnie( just kidding Dave) aa we discussed the problems of the
world in a reasonably civil manner.
I don't often agree with Dave but I do respect his intelligence and
knowledge of grazing in Wisconsin and the role of corn silage in his
climate. When you are dealing with Dave, you need a thick enough skin to
be able to bat away the insults and probe for the odd gem of an idea.
