My name is Annette Hassenstab and I had a Junior Master Gardener Program in
Redwood County this past year. I plan to do another JMG program this next
year but starting only in January 2003 instead of corresponding with the
school year in order to accomodate the growing season.
The group I worked with named themselves the "Growing Garden Goonies" and
was sponsored by a grant from the Redwood County Children's Collaborative
and supported by the Wabasso Community School.
Seven of the thirteen children involved completed all of the requirements
for the certification - some of the kids continue the activities on an
informal basis now during the summer months. We started the program in
August of 2001 and continued meeting almost every Thursday afternoon for
about 90 minutes through May 2002.
