Mary Jane,
I am of the opinion that while azaleas, rhododendrons, hydrangeas and quite
a few other "shade plants" or "shade tolerant plants" will technically
survive in shade, they actually thrive in sun. I have examples of all 3 of
the above planted at the same time, some on shady sites, some on sunny
sites, and the difference is dramatic. For example, Azalea 'White Lights'
is 3' in shade and 9' in sun. Unfortunately, it turns out that I don't
really like white azaleas, but I have to admire the size of the big one.
Just wish it were 'Rosy Lights!'
