My experience with Northern Lights has been a long battle. Not with the plant
it self but with deer. They LOVE them. Finally after trying to fight them
with sprays and what nots, I now put wire around them by rutting season, rubbing
or eating, doesn't matter, they love them. I give them faithfully miracid
and they are doing great. I have them in heavy clay soil, neutral PH, only
amended when planted, and in full sun and mulched. I think the shade thing is
meant to be for the more southern climates where it gets really hot. Mine have
always been in full sun.
So with regular applications of miracid and putting up the wire in Sept, I
should finally have nice azaleas after about 10 years. That buck is finally
going to learn who actually owns my gardens!
