[Mastgar] HELP WITH SQUIRREL PROBLEM

From: Beth Jarvis (brjarvis_at_umn.edu)
Date: 12/03/04

Hi Hank,

I suspect they were spreading moth balls, not cotton balls, around. <g>

They can't have all the holes plugged if the squirrels are getting in and out. If
they 'd trapped them inside, the squirrels would be trying *really* hard to get
out! A few years ago, a squirrel chewed a hole in my house fascia board and
it was fairly large, a couple of inches wide.

Are they sure they have squirrels? Mice can make a *lot* of noise. They can
squeeze into fairly small, dime-size, holes. I used to have them in my
basement romping on the suspended ceiling over my head in my office.
Noisy suckers! I had the house re-sided this fall, so, knock wood, they can't
get in any more. But I don't relish the notion of ever removing the drop
ceiling panels in the basement. I can just imagine how many dead/dessicated
mice are up there. <eeeewwww!>

Another possibility is bats. My ex-brother-in-law had them in his house and
you could hear them thru the walls in places. They made a rustling sort of
noise.

Your gardener can contact the Bell Museum for help. Or, you might, if your
client doesn't have web access. The addr. is: wildlifeinfo@bellmuseum.org
(This url is linked on the Y & G Line page.)

Hope this helps,
Beth
