It's my understanding that at least the biggest producer of those
genetically engineered potatoes, Monsanto, withdrew them from the market for
both home and commercial gardeners in 2002.
Several websites address the issue. Michael Pollan also has a chapter on
these potatoes in his excellent book "Botany of Desire." The chapter ends
with Monsanto pulling them from the market because of the outcry.
I am not sure if any company other than Monsanto produced these.
