[Mastgar] International Experiences in Horticulture

Hi Master Gardeners,
   Next semseter at the U, I will be involved with a new class HORT 
4000, International Experiences in Horticulture. Brian Horgan, the 
turfgrass professor and I are teaching this new class. Below is 
information about it. Some of you may hear about this and wonder about 
it, so I wanted to tell you directly.
   You have to take the class to go on the trip. The U tuition is about 
$1,000 for 3 credits unless you are a U employee. If you have other 
questions, feel free to contact me directly.

    NEW CLASS  offered SPRING 2005


  Travel to England, visit gardens and play St. Andrews.


  Hort 4000   International Experiences in Horticulture


Meets weekly Wednesday, 6-8 pm 310 Alderman Hall

3 credits

This new course will meet weekly during the semester and then end with a 
trip to a different foreign country each spring. In 2005 the class will 
travel to England and Scotland.

 

Tentative Travel Dates: May 15-25, 2005

Approximate cost: $2,500

 

Sites to visit include:

Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh, Scotland; St. Andrew Golf Courses; 
Sports Research Institute, Leeds England; Kew Gardens, London; 
Sissinghurst, Hever Castle; Hampton Court and Blenheim Palace; 
Stonehenge; Stourhead Gardens; Wimbledon and Chelsea Flower Show

 

We will be studying sports turf and golf in Scotland and the history of 
English gardens, from grand medieval palaces like Hampton Court to more 
contemporary gardens such as Sissinghurst. Students will meet weekly 
throughout Spring semester to learn culture and horticulture of the 
country we will be visiting.
