For all sorts of earth-friendly pest solutions, try
http://www.gardensalive.com <http://www.gardensalive.com/> . I have
used dozens of their products and been very satisfied with them. Their
pantry moth traps and "houseplants alive" fertilizers work wonders.
Usually it's pretty easy to find a $20 coupon code online, too.
If you actually do have the plant gnat problem instead of the fruit fly
problem (the plant ones are smaller and closer to black than brown,
without the big eyes of fruit flies) then try a systemic pesticide
powder mixed in to the top two inches of the affected pots' soil. And
water less--the gnats like damp environments and lay eggs at the damp
bottom part of the pot interiors.
