Salting the sidewalksAlso providing traction, without harming adjacent
plants or grasses, or pet paws of all sizes, or any wild bird or animal,
and is also very inexpensive....el-cheapo cat litter...the 100% clay in
bags. Also good to keep in your car to provide
traction when you're on a slippery slope.

An economical approach that provides traction but does not melt the
ice would be poultry grit. There's a product that I recently purchased
called Safe Paw which is 100% salt free and is supposed to be ok for
pets and lawns and concrete,etc. but it is relatively expensive ($13
for 8 gallons I believe). I haven't tried it yet though! Jean Forrey
