Salting the sidewalksThere is a caution to using cat litter, although I
can't remember the details right now. It may be that clumping litter
becomes slippery when wet. Can anyone help me out on this?

Also providing traction, without harming adjacent plants or grasses,
or pet paws of all sizes, or any wild bird or animal,
and is also very inexpensive....el-cheapo cat litter...the 100% clay
in bags. Also good to keep in your car to provide
traction when you're on a slippery slope.

An economical approach that provides traction but does not melt the
ice would be poultry grit. There's a product that I recently purchased
called Safe Paw which is 100% salt free and is supposed to be ok for
pets and lawns and concrete, etc. but it is relatively expensive ($13
for 8 gallons I believe). I haven't tried it yet though! Jean Forrey
