Ahh

I presumed you had been through that stage
It does work -- eventually
Let it get dark so they are really prety sleepy.
Gently take each bird out of sleep in nestboxes holding them around the 
wings firmly so they stay content and not struggling.
Put their feet over the perch until that instinct makes them grap it. Wait 
until you are sure they are latched on before letting go.
It may take a few nights to get the jist of it but you should be able to get 
them to "do it in their sleep"
It may take more than a week or two to get them into doing it for 
themselves.
Often - once one or two do so then the others follow suit.
