I forgot to coment on this, but my Great Mother-in- law, who happens to be 
102 years old,  has always added ground chillies to her duck's feed.   She 
maintains that they improve the yolk color, and prevents the birds from 
getting colds.

We mix them with our feed as well, but only to keep the deer and raccoons 
out of it.  I have not noticed any difference in egg flavor or quality.
