Writers,
Especially look at item #2. There's a good chance we can get some
letters published with Earth Day coming up.
1. Undercover agents in Alaskan wilderness
http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2006/04/19/68108
In this piece, the interviewee say "animal rights" is extreme and
leftist. Someone should respond to this piece pointing out that's far
from the truth since people like Matthew Scully (www.matthewscully.com)
and Charles Colson, from the right, oppose factory farming. A good
letter would also point out that most people recognize factory farming
as inhumane.
Letters of (100-200 words) should be sent to letters@mndaily.com with
your name, phone number, and university/work status. For an even better
chance of being published, send a piece of ~430 words and CC
knoyes@mndaily.com. These longer pieces are much more likely to be
published than short letters.
2. Write Letters for Earth Day!
This letter "Animal Agriculture Stresses Earth" appeared in the Herald
Tribune
(http://www.heraldtribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060420/OPINION/604200669/1029/NEWS01).
Since Earth Day is coming up on 4/22, there's a good chance of getting
short letters published especially with recent research out of the
University of Chicago linking meat eating to greater greenhouse gases.
If anyone wants to work with me to write some short pieces and send them
to tons of papers, I think we'd have a good chance of getting published.
Let me know (jason@ca4a.org), but we only have a few days to act.
3. Wouldn't be a circus without elephants... would it?
http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/columnists/stu_bykofsky/14384156.htm
This column talks about the problem with circuses. A potential letter
could extend the author's point, or turn it "Another place we should
look for animal cruelty is in our food supply..."
