Writers,
Today's Star Tribune featured several pieces on food worthy of our
responses. Jeremy Iggers, the author of these four pieces, spoke this
past Spring on a panel leading up to Peter Singer's lecture. In no
particular order:
1. Not-so-simple Choices
http://www.startribune.com/438/story/547730.html
Iggers talks about the various choices we have to make in our food
purchasing decisions and encourages each of us to think about our values
in making these decisions.
2. The Three Big Issues
http://www.startribune.com/438/story/547760.html
Iggers offer some suggestions for people wanting to take sustainability,
animal welfare, and human rights into consideration during their purchasing.
3. Agendas for Eating Out
http://www.startribune.com/456/story/547746.html
Iggers lists several restaurants that serve locally grown or vegetarian
food.
4. Grocery Store Ethical Choices
http://www.startribune.com/438/story/547752.html
A listing of labels on foods and what they mean. Unfortunately, he does
not mention that many of these labels do not have official meanings that
require certification.
Letters to the editor might expand on the animal welfare information
provided by Iggers in the first piece above and could even promote
VegGuide.org as a follow up to "Agendas for eating out." And, of course,
Iggers deserves to be thanked for raising the issue of ethics in our
food choices.
